Technical Illustration

Technical flats are line drawings of the garments that communicates details to the patternmaker, sample sewer and line sewers at the factory. Typical industry-grade flats clarify details, like:

• front and back view of the garment
• call outs for topstitching
• placement of contrast fabrics
• hem dimensions
• label placement
• etc.

Technical Package

The technical package lists all the garment components (e.g. button dimensions/specifications, zipper specification and length, ready-made trim widths, etc.), the sizing of a garment, quality inspection criteria and any special directions for fabrication or finishing. Some factories require little documentation, others require quite a lot more. A sample of a basic technical package can be downloaded from the sidebar.

Sizing

Established companies have already defined the population and market they design for. Though, these technical details do require occasional re-verification or adjustments over time.
